We’ll show you how to curl your hair with a dressing gown rope (yes, really) in five simple steps.
You’ve seen the trend on TikTok and dreamt of achieving the same sultry waves. Let’s make the concept a reality with these easy-peasy steps to making dreamy dressing gown curls.
We like to think we’re ahead of the curl, ahem – curve, so we’ve compiled our own video to show you just how to achieve dressing gown curls with ease. As always, it starts with the prep.
Step 1: Wash and prep
Product: Turn Up The Volume Volumising Mousse
Any curl works best when given the right product to do its thing. Dressing gown curls are no different – but you’ll need more tools than the belt itself. So, wash hair as normal and then once dry, apply our Turn Up The Volume Volumising Mousse. This genius product will make the hair ready to curl, as well as keeping hair bouncy and voluminous afterwards. Once applied, brush it out then dry again – but start curling before hair dries – you’ll need the heat to help them set.
Step 2: Part and start

Brush hair and part down the middle into two sections. (It doesn’t have to be super-neat.) Secure the hair on one side with a band (think 80s side-pony vibes). Now, grab your dressing gown belt.
Step 3: Get ready for the new wave

Take your dressing gown belt and, if possible, fold it in half so it meets the ends of your hair. If it’s a really thick towelling belt, just leave it as is. Place it about halfway down the centre of your head and secure it firmly with a clip.
Step 4: Twirl and twirl

Take a section of hair a few cm wide and start to wrap it around the belt (just the once). Take the next nearest section and repeat. Keep doing this and adding more and more hair, working your way down the belt until all your hair is secured around it. For tighter curls, wrap each hair section closer together, with extra tension. For looser waves, wrap the sections further apart. Once all your hair is wrapped on both sides, secure with a band. Then head to bed and let the magic happen.
Step 5: Rise and shine

Now, you’re ready to unveil your curled locks, bringing a whole new meaning to ‘beauty sleep’. Don’t untie anything just yet.
