There’s no better way to get a fresh start for the new season than with a new look! While the cooler months are still a while away, now's the time to get ready with these key autumn hair looks. From middle parts to ultra gloss, read on to discover our round-up of hair trends for autumn and tips on how to create the looks.
1. Poker Straight
Get your straightening irons at the ready because poker-straight hair is going to be on trend this autumn. Remember in the early noughties when hair was super-straight? Well, it's back and bang on trend! Celebrities like Zendaya and Rita Ora have styled their hair like this for big events recently, and you can easily get this look too.
To get a poker straight look, prep hair with Perfectly Perfecting Wonder Treatment Oil when damp. Leave the oil in your hair, dry and style as usual. When hair is dry, section and mist with Reassuringly Firm Session Hold Hairspray. Then take each section and run over with a straightening iron. Now, you’re ready to rock super-straight strands with the best of them.
2. Ultra Glossy
Shiny, healthy-looking hair never goes out of fashion, and the uber-glossy, reflective hair that was filling the Instagram feeds earlier this year continues to remain on-trend for autumn. If your hair is dry or damaged, you may think that an ultra-glossy look is out of your reach, but we're here to tell you... You can totally pull this off!
To get the look, you’ll need to make sure you look after your hair and keep it in as good condition as possible. A regular shiny hair shampoo and conditioner duo like Really Rather Radiant Divine Shine Shampoo & Conditioner will give you a great start for glossy locks. A weekly treatment mask will help to add shine, hydrate and seal cuticles too. You could try our Perfectly Perfecting Wonder Overnight Recovery which gets to work while you sleep. Or use a primer like Perfectly Perfecting Wonder Balm to keep your hair smooth and frizz-free for up to three days. Add a few drops of Smoothed, Sealed & Sensational No Oil Oil for Thick Hair or Smoothed, Sealed and Sensational Volumising No Oil Oil for Fine Hair to add shine before drying and styling. You’ll soon be gorgeously glossy.
3. Blunt Bob
While the bob has been big news for all of 2019, it looks set to stay a hot trend for autumn. A blunt bob with a sharp finish is a really hot style for this season. Olivia Culpo is the latest to debut her new style on Instagram, joining celebrities like Emilia Clarke, Kendall Jenner, Dua Lipa and Emma Stone.
To get the look, you need to make sure you get the right hair cut - and keep it regularly trimmed. To keep your bob frizz-free when you are on the go, keep a can of Oh-So-Smooth Frizz Fixer to hand, and you’re all set for frizz control in a flash. Simply spray on and brush through to keep your bob nice and smooth. A spray of ‘A Walk in the Rain Shine & Fragrance Mist” will keep your strands shiny and polished too.
4. I Just Woke Up Like This
This style is the perfect trend for all girls who don't want to set their alarms too early! Undone, messy waves with an, ‘I just woke up like this’ feel will be on-trend all of this autumn. If this has been your summer style you will be pleased to know it won't be out of fashion moving into winter!
This effortlessly chic look is super easy to style. Let your hair air dry and grab a bottle of Beyond the Beach Texture Spray. Simply spritz onto damp hair and tousle into soft waves, and you’re good to go. Effortless chic.
5. Low Ponytail
A low ponytail is a sleek and chic autumn look that is so easy to create. This look is oh-so-simple but oh-so-stylish.
To slick back hair, start by mixing Perfectly Perfecting Wonder Balm and Quite Frankly Flawless Finishing Polish in your palms and apply to towel-dried hair. Dry hair, and then using a paddle brush sweep hair back and use a band to secure hair at the nape of your neck into a low ponytail. (You can also create a fierce braid by slicking back a low ponytail and plaiting.) Use Quite Frankly Flawless Finishing Polish to tame any flyaways and you're done.
6. Big, Big Hair
Big, big hair sported by sixties icons like Brigitte Bardot, was a look spotted on the Autumn/Winter 2019 catwalks and one that we'll all be trying in the coming months. To create gravity-defying volume and glamour try a bouffant, half-up, half-down hairstyle. Apply Abundantly Bouncy Volumising Mousse to damp hair and blow-dry. For sixties-inspired height gently backcomb your hair and then secure the top section of hair at the back of your head with an embellished bobby pin to add the wow factor.
7. Statement Accessories
Hair accessories were in abundance on all of the catwalks this year, and the trend will remain strong for autumn. You literally can’t buy too many accessories to take you through the season! Supersize accessories that create a real statement will be big news. Try adding an ornate brooch, a large crystal hair slide, or an embellished headband to add instant glamour.
Our co-founder Adam Reed says, “you can add a new spin on the way that you wear your hair and add interest with an accessory this autumn.” Try spraying grips with Reassuringly Firm Session Hold Hairspray to secure your accessories firmly.
8. Make Way for the Middle
Centre partings were everywhere on the catwalks. For a simple way to create a new look without making a huge change, you can simply part your hair at the centre using a fine-tooth tail comb. You'll be surprised at the difference it makes! When hair is damp, prep with your usual hair styling products and then use the comb to draw a straight line from the front hairline to the back. Blow-dry each side of your hair with the nozzle pointing away from your parting. Middle partings work particularly well for those with oval, square or round face shapes, but don't let not having that face shape stop you giving this look a whirl!
